Kelly has spent the past 15 years working as a graphic design artist and a women’s accessories designer, in a small locally owned woman’s boutique. She also works about 20 hours a week in a small marine upholstery shop, re-upholstering sun-dried, cracked or otherwise damaged boat seats.

Kelly's writing experience comes from writing articles online, writing company newsletters, memos and customer correspondences via e-mail and regular mail. She has a background in website and logo design, having set up and run several personal and business related webs sites. She also dabbles in photography and animal photography.

In the past 3 years, since the death of her mother, Kelly has taken over the responsibility of caring for her 80 year old father. She has become the next best thing to an expert when it comes to managing personal finances, planning low carbohydrate and diabetic friendly meals, and dealing with assorted doctors, medical supplies and one very contrary diabetic insulin pump.

Kelly has always had a love for animals of all shapes and sizes. She currently has four cats, one of which is deaf, an elderly and diabetic dog of the mutt variety, an extremely bossy middle-aged Chihuahua and a half-wild ADHD squirrel, aptly named Squirrel.

As a feature writer in Zoology, for Suite 101, Kelly has been able to combine her love of writing with her love of animals, while continuing to learn about wild and domestic animals and how they communicate, and interact with their environment and with each other.

Kelly has recently won an Editor’s Choice Award and a Best of Editor’s Choice award for her article entitled “How to Keep Your Peace of Mind While Caring for an Elderly Parent”.

Other Editor’s Choice Award winning articles include:

"Senior Friendly Easy to Use Cell Phones for Elderly Parents"

"Behavioral Play in Chimpanzees Resembles that of Human Children"

"Fire Ants Form a Cooperative Life Raft to Survive Flood Waters"
